Alex and Michael are preparing to take a trip to Florida, to attend the annual tournements held by the Kyn in the US.

Byrne, the suzerain of the local jardin has decided that he must step down, he can no longer trust himself to control his bloodlust and so he can no longer lead the suzerain, he tells only  Michael, and one trusted friend. Jayr, his seneschal, has devoted her entire existance to serving Byrne, while never telling him why.
