In an effort to protect more Moroi, the Acadamy creates a holiday retreat at a ski lodge, where students and their families are welcome, in hopes that a large party will discourage the group of Strigoi. Rose is shocked to walk into class just before the holiday break and see her mother, a Guardian, mostly because her mother hadn’t said anything about arriving.

Rose has a lot to learn about being a Guardian, and about her bond with Lissa, can she keep Lissa alive until then, and will she survive it?
