Breathless ~ Dean Koontz
Several places around the country something bizarre is happening, animals stand as if entranced and seem to come out of the trance changed, healed in some way, and then Grady and his dog Merlin run across these strange creatures, they are unlike anything he has ever seen. When he involves the local vet, Cammy, she begins searching for what they might be, and it comes to the attention of the Dept of Homeland Security. But can the government put a lid on what is happening?
The Darkest Evening of the Year ~ Dean Koontz
This book tells the tale of Amy Redwing, the founder of Golden Heart, a rescue for Golden Retrievers, and Brian McCarthy, the architect she is dating. They encounter a Retriever who seems to be more than just a dog, and follow their pasts and the histories that haunt them both, to their future.
This is not a bad book, but was way, way too focused on the dogs to suit me. I pick up Koontz for a thriller/suspense novel, not a homage to Golden Retrievers, if there hadn’t been long detours about the dogs and the breed, this would have been a really great book.
Odd Hours ~ Dean Koontz
This is the fourth book in the Odd Thomas series.
In this book Odd is in Magic Beach, and has had what seems to be a prophetic dream and now must figure out what must be done to keep the tragedy in his dream from occuring. Along the way he meets a young pregnant girl, Annemarie who seems to be as different as he is from the rest of the population, and is somehow linked to him. As Odd races through the night struggling to survive and still prevent the tragedy, he always has Annemarie on his mind.
I enjoyed this book. It was not, to me, as gripping and enthralling as previous books, but still not a bad story.
Watchers ~ Dean Koontz
two creatures have escaped from a genetics lab in southern California, one a very friendly golden retriever, the other a killing machine, and both are near human intelligent. The retriever soon finds a freind in Travis Cornell, and quickly shows him that he is not just an average dog. Travis names the dog Einstein, for his obvious intelligence and soon, Einstein leads Travis to meet Nora, and quickly saves Nora’s life. As they get to know each other better they learn to communicate with Einstein and find out about the other creature….
The Outsider has always resented Einstein, and is determined to kill him. The Outsider tracks, through an extra sense they both possess, Einstein over hundreds of miles killing people and animals along the way. Always managing to avoid the NSA which is searching for them both.
Will Travis and Nora be able to survive the Outsider, and will they be able to save Einstein from him? and what about the NSA?
Brother Odd ~ Dean Koontz
This is the third book in the Odd Thomas series. Odd Thomas is a young man (only 21) who can see spirits. He says the dead never talk, but he usually figures out how to help them on to the other side even without them speaking. One of the spirits that Odd encounters most often is Elvis. Elvis does not haunt a particular place, but seems attached to Odd, and is one of the few ghosts who freely interacts with Odd. Odd has has some troubling and disturbing events occur in his life in the last 18 months, and has recently retreated to a monastery in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to try to find some peace. Unfortunately, the monastery is not as peaceful as Odd would have hoped, but Odd manages to make it through and move on to the next challenge.
Robot Santa ~ Dean Koontz
The Further Adventures of Santa’s Twin, this is a sequel to Koontz’s Santa’s Twin. This is written as a poem, similar to Twas the Night before Christmas, but with much more mischief. Santa’s twin brother, Bob, has built a robot to help out Santa on the big night.. but something has gone wrong!!!
I found this quite amusing, it was written as a children’s book, like the Santa’s Twin, with some really great illustrations. It is definitely a collector’s item!!
The Husband ~ Dean Koontz
I listened to most of this on Unabridged Audio book as I have spent over 8 hrs in the car with no other adult in the last two days (kids were watching DVDs) It was very engrossing and entertaining, you follow the events of a gardener from Orange, Ca. after his wife has been kidnapped and he is told the ransom is 2 million dollars. There are twists and revelations that are a bit shocking sometimes, and very enthralling. I highly recommend!! I can’t wait to get my hands on Brother Odd, as it is released at the end of this month.
