Lunatic Cafe ~ Laurell Hamilton

This is the fourth book in the Anita Blake series.

Anita has been dating Richard for a couple months now, and they seem to be serious, until a visit from Jean Claude reveals that Richard has been witholding from her details of the inner workings of his Werewolf pack, and fights for dominance. Anita is summonsed to meet the pack leader, Marcus, because Marcus wants her to help solve a series of Lycantrhope disappearances. After a dominance struggle of her own, Anita begins investigating the missing people.

One of Jean Claude’s vampires is determined to get Anita out of Jean Claude’s life, and attacks Anita, to get her to tell Jean Claude that she wants nothing to do with him. When Anita goes to tell him that Richard has proposed, and she has accepted, Jean Claude demands a chance to woo her, and win her love as Richard had done, or he will simply kill Richard.

At the same time Anita is working on a case with the police of a murder done by a shapeshifter, and a skinned immortal, and wishing she could tell them about the missing lycantrhopes.

This is the second book in the Anita Blake series.

Guilty Pleasures ~ Laurell Hamilton

This is the first book in the Anita Blake series.

We are introduced to Anita in this book, and a world where not only do vampires exist, but they are legal citizens as well. Anita is an animator, she raises zombies from the grave, for a living.  She also consults with the Police preternatural squad on such cases as vampire killings, Ghoul attacks and other preternatural crimes, and is a vampire hunter. Anita is also known among the vampire community as The Executioner, because once an order of execution is issued, Anita is the one who carries it out.

In this book, Anita is blackmailed into helping the Master of the City determine who in Saint Louis is killing vampires. In order to save one friend Anita ends up endangering more, and having to kill at least one person just to stay alive.

Can Anita figure out who is behind the crimes before the Master of the City runs out of patience? And can Anita survive a confrontation with the Master?

This is one of my favorite book series. Any time I don’t really want to think about what I am reading, and just want to get lost in the book, I pick up these. I fully admit that I have read the entire series several times since I discovered them… and it will prolly be a few more before I am through.

Knitting Rules! ~ Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

a quick read, with a fun attitude and enjoyable approach to knitting for new, and not so new knitters. I really enjoyed it. Though… Husband didn’t quite enjoy me finding new ‘reasons’ for buying more yarn…

Odd Hours ~ Dean Koontz

This is the fourth book in the Odd Thomas series.

In this book Odd is in Magic Beach, and has had what seems to be a prophetic dream and now must figure out what must be done to keep the tragedy in his dream from occuring. Along the way he meets a young pregnant girl, Annemarie who seems to be as different as he is from the rest of the population, and is somehow linked to him. As Odd races through the night struggling to survive and still prevent the tragedy, he always has Annemarie on his mind.

I enjoyed this book. It was not, to me, as gripping and enthralling as previous books, but still not a bad story.

Breaking Dawn ~ Stephenie Meyer

This is the fourth book in the Twilight series.

This book starts shortly before Bella’s wedding to Edward, and lasts until aprox six months later. going through the wedding, honeymoon and Bella’s conversion to a vampire, among other major challenges and changes in Bella’s life.

I was not impressed,  this book seemed a little rough compared to the previous, as  though it were rushed to print instead of revised and polished. Not bad.. but not one of her best efforts.

Phantom in the Night ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon

This is the Sixth book in the BAD series.

Terri is a former DEA Agent, now working for BAD, trying to figure out who is framing her, and why. When suddenly she comes across a mystery man, whom seems to be helping her, but she can’t figure out why…

Nathan is a former Spec. Ops Soldier for the army, who went AWOL to take his twin brother’s place in prison. Now that he has been released, his mother is dead and his brother has been murdered, Nathan has nothing left to live for but revenge.

Not at all what I have come to expect from the BAD series. I expected a funny, fast moving thriller, and got bumbling and not so bright… Wish Sherrilyn would lose the sudden co-writer for these!

Acheron ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon

This is the latest book in the Dark Hunter series.

This long awaited book tells the tale of Acheron, the Atlantean god, who is in charge of all the Dark Hunters that Artimis has created. It tells of his birth, around 10,000 BC and the story of his childhood as a human prince, and what has shaped the man we have been seeing so far in the series. We also see why he keeps returning to Artimis no matter how much he hates her, and why he can’t free his mother.

I really really enjoyed this book, I was afraid it was going to be very dark, and not much to my taste, but it was very well done, I will have to make this one of my regular re-reads.
